XLRI Jamshedpur Summer Internship 2026-28: 100% Placement, Stipend Numbers and What They Mean for MBA Aspirants

XLRI has wrapped up summer internship placements for its 2026-28 batch, and the numbers are strong. Every student got an internship, the median stipend jumped to ₹1.8 lakh a month, and 32 new recruiters came on board. Here is what happened, how it compares with the last two batches, how to read the stipend figures the right way, and what it means if you are preparing for CAT or XAT now.

The Short Answer

XLRI achieved 100% summer internship placement for its 2026-28 batch across the Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR campuses. In all, 587 students received 594 offers from 106 recruiting organisations. The highest stipend is ₹3.5 lakh a month, the average is ₹1.75 lakh and the median is ₹1.8 lakh. Consulting led all sectors with 30% of roles.

Campuses Jamshedpur and Delhi-NCR
Programmes PGDM-BM and PGDM-HRM
Students 587

Highest stipend ₹3.5 lakh per month
Average stipend ₹1.75 lakh per month
Median stipend ₹1.8 lakh per month

Stipend Breakdown

XLRI's stipend numbers go beyond the headline figure.

Stipend category Amount per month
Highest ₹3.5 lakh
Top 10% average ₹2.58 lakh
Top 25% average ₹2.39 lakh
Median ₹1.8 lakh
Average ₹1.75 lakh

The top 10% of the batch averaged ₹2.58 lakh a month, and the top 25% averaged ₹2.39 lakh. The gap between the two is small, which tells you that strong offers were spread across a wide group of students and not concentrated in a handful of outliers.

How to Read the Stipend Numbers

The highest number gets the headlines, but it is not the one that matters most to you.

Number What it tells you What it hides
Highest stipend The best single offer Almost nothing about a typical student's offer
Average stipend The total divided by students It can be pulled up by a few very high offers
Median stipend The middle student's offer It does not show the range

For aspirants, the median is the most useful of the three. At ₹1.8 lakh a month, half the batch earned at least that much. Here the median sits slightly above the average, which is a healthy sign: no handful of giant offers is inflating the picture. Also remember that a summer internship stipend is not a final placement salary. It is paid for a short internship at the end of your first year.

How This Compares With the Last Two Batches

Figure 2024-26 batch 2025-27 batch 2026-28 batch
Students 576 583 587
Offers 604 584 594
Recruiting organisations 133 114 106
New recruiters 37 28 32
Highest stipend ₹3.5 lakh ₹3.5 lakh ₹3.5 lakh
Average stipend ₹1.67 lakh ₹1.6 lakh ₹1.75 lakh
Median stipend ₹1.60 lakh ₹1.55 lakh ₹1.80 lakh

The 2025-27 figures include the PGDM-LSCM cohort.

Three things stand out.

  • The median made its biggest jump in three years. It rose by ₹25,000 a month over the 2025-27 batch, which is a gain of about 16%, and it is ₹20,000 above the 2024-26 batch.
  • The average is at a three-year high. At ₹1.75 lakh, it is ₹15,000 above last year and ₹8,000 above 2024-26.
  • Recruiters are placing more offers each. The number of organisations has come down from 133 to 106, but offers have held steady, so each recruiter is hiring more interns on average, from about 4.5 offers per recruiter in 2024-26 to about 5.6 now.

The highest stipend has stayed at ₹3.5 lakh for three batches in a row, so the real story is in the middle of the batch, where students gained the most. Three batches are not a long trend, but they point in a healthy direction.

Who Recruited

XLRI drew 106 organisations this year, and 32 of them were new recruiters. That is nearly a third of the list, which shows how fast industry interest in the programmes is growing.

The recruiters that made the highest number of offers were Accenture, Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Bain & Company, Bajaj Auto, Boston Consulting Group, EY-Parthenon, ITC Limited, Mahindra, PwC, Procter & Gamble and Reliance.

Other recruiters came from across the economy:

  • Technology and e-commerce: Flipkart, Google, Intuit, JioStar, Media.net and Meesho.
  • Banking, financial services and insurance: American Express, Axis Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Barclays, Citibank, D. E. Shaw & Co., Deutsche Bank, Essar Capital and HDFC ERGO General Insurance.
  • Manufacturing, automotive and energy: ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India, Bajaj Auto, Castrol, Cummins, GE Aerospace and GE HealthCare.
  • Conglomerates and general management: JSW Group, RP-Sanjiv Goenka Group, RPG Group and Tata Administrative Services.

The mix of consulting firms, banks, big tech, consumer brands and heavy industry shows how wide the demand is. A student with the right profile can find a way into almost any function.

Sector-Wise Distribution

Sector Share of roles
Consulting 30%
FMCG, retail and consumer 21%
E-commerce, technology and media 19%
BFSI, manufacturing, automotive and energy, general management and conglomerates Remaining 30%

Consulting took the largest share by a clear margin, with almost one in three roles. FMCG, retail and consumer businesses came next, followed by e-commerce, technology and media. The rest of the batch went into banking, financial services and insurance, manufacturing, automotive and energy, and general management and conglomerates.

What the XLRI Director Said

XLRI's director, Dr. (Fr.) Sebastian George, said the batch concluded with every student securing an internship. He pointed to consulting, consumer goods, technology and finance as the areas where recruiters placed their trust in XLRI students again, and he called the arrival of 32 new recruiters a sign of the growing reach of the programmes.

What It Means If You Are Preparing for CAT or XAT

  • Skills show up even at the internship stage. Consulting, consumer businesses and technology were the biggest hirers. If you want an internship in one of them, start building evidence now. Our guide to skills beyond the MBA degree explains what recruiters look for.
  • Internships are part of the hiring pipeline. Employers use the summer internship to assess you before a final offer, so treat it as the first round of your placement.
  • A good percentile is only the first step. Getting a call and converting it takes profile and interview preparation. Read our post on the mistakes to avoid in the last six weeks before CAT 2026 for what to do now.
  • Understand the selection process. See our post on IIM Calcutta's MBA selection criteria for 2027 to see how a top B-school builds its shortlist.
  • XLRI admits through XAT. If XLRI is your target, XAT is your main exam, and it is worth preparing for it alongside CAT.
  • Know which programme fits you. XLRI hires for both Business Management and Human Resource Management, and the two lead to different careers. Pick the one that matches where you want to be, not just the one with the bigger brand.
