IPMAT 2027 Syllabus: Topics, Pattern and Weightage for IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak
IPMAT is the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management at IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak, and the two IIMs run different papers. Neither one publishes a detailed official syllabus, so students work from the pattern and past papers. Here are the topics that actually come up, how many questions each section carries, and how to plan your preparation.
The Short Answer
IIM Indore's IPMAT has 90 questions in 120 minutes, with three sections of 40 minutes each: Quantitative Ability MCQs (30), Quantitative Ability Short Answer (15) and Verbal Ability (45). IIM Rohtak's IPMAT has 120 MCQs in 120 minutes, split evenly across Quantitative Ability, Logical Reasoning and Verbal Ability, with no sectional time limit. Both use +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong MCQ. The syllabus is based on Class 11 and 12 maths and school-level English, with logical reasoning added for Rohtak. Reading comprehension and algebra-heavy quantitative topics carry the most weight.
IPMAT at a Glance
In 2026, the IPMAT conducted by IIM Indore was also used for admission to IIM Ranchi, IIM Amritsar and IIM Shillong, so one paper can open several doors. Check each IIM's current notification for the list in 2027.
IIM Indore IPMAT Pattern
The sectional limit is locked, so you cannot carry unused time from one section to the next. Quantitative Ability and Verbal Ability carry equal weight in the final score.

Reasonable attempts reported for the paper were around 32 to 36 in Verbal Ability, 14 to 16 in Quantitative MCQ and 7 to 11 in Short Answer, which is roughly 53 to 63 questions in all. These are estimates from the exam analysis, not official figures.
IIM Rohtak IPMAT Pattern
All questions are MCQs, with +4 for a correct answer and -1 for a wrong one. There is no short answer section and no sectional time limit, so you can move between sections. A calculator is not allowed, which makes calculation speed and accuracy more important than in Indore.

How to Prepare: A Simple Plan
This part is our judgement.
For IIM Indore - Give about half your study time to Quantitative Ability. Algebra, logarithms, coordinate geometry, functions and data interpretation need regular practice. - Practise short answers every day. There is no negative marking, and no options to eliminate, so accuracy on basics matters. - Read two passages a day and solve vocabulary and grammar sets, since reading comprehension is the largest block in Verbal Ability. - Practise para jumbles and sentence completion from past papers. - Take full mocks with the locked 40-minute sections, so you learn to finish each section in its time.
For IIM Rohtak - Alternate arithmetic, logical reasoning and verbal practice during the week. - Practise without a calculator. Learn squares, cubes, fractions and percentages to speed up. - Do timed puzzle sets for arrangements and data sufficiency. - Build vocabulary regularly, since it is the biggest single block in Verbal Ability. - Take weekly full mocks and review sectional accuracy.
For both - Start with Class 11 and 12 maths and school-level grammar, then move to timed sets. - Solve past papers once your basics are in place. - Analyse each mock before taking the next one.
Common Mistakes
- Ignoring short answers. They carry the same +4 marks and have no negative marking, so they are worth real preparation.
- Treating Verbal Ability as the easy section. It is 45 questions in Indore, and long passages take time.
- Preparing for only one IIM. Indore and Rohtak differ in sections, timing and the calculator, so train for both if you are applying to both.
- Starting full mocks too late. Time management is a skill, and the locked sectional timing in Indore needs practice.
- Guessing wildly in MCQs. Each wrong answer costs a mark, so guess only when you can eliminate options.
What We Do Not Know Yet
- IIM Indore and IIM Rohtak do not publish an official detailed syllabus, so topic lists are based on past papers and can change.
- The 2027 notifications, dates and fees have not been announced, so all dates here are expected.
- Topic counts for each section change from year to year, so treat the weightage as a guide.
