Top B-Schools in India for Business Analytics 2026: Programmes, Eligibility and Exams
Business analytics is now a full MBA-level programme at several Indian B-schools, not just an elective. This guide covers eight colleges with a dedicated analytics programme or track, with the entry criteria and exams for each, as published by the colleges.
Why Business Analytics Programmes Matter
Many recruiters in consulting, banking and technology now ask for candidates who can work with data. Colleges have responded in two ways. Some run a separate analytics MBA with its own seats and its own selection process. Others offer an analytics track inside a general programme.
The two routes differ in who they suit. Dedicated programmes often ask for a maths, statistics or engineering background, or give weight to it. Tracks inside a general MBA usually follow the normal admission rules of that college. Read the rules for the exact programme you want, because they differ more than the college names suggest.
How We Picked These Colleges
This is not an official ranking for business analytics, and no such ranking exists. We used three checks:
- The college must run a business analytics programme or track that we could confirm on its official page or in an official admission document.
- The college's NIRF 2025 management rank, where it appears in the top 25, as a general measure of standing.
- Whether the college or a reliable news source published usable placement information for the programme.
We left out colleges where we could not confirm a dedicated analytics programme from a source we read. Entry criteria change every cycle, so some documents below belong to the 2026-28 or 2027-29 cycle, and each is labelled.
Quick Comparison
The Colleges
1. IIM Bangalore: PGP in Business Analytics (PGPBA)
PGPBA is a two-year residential programme that awards an MBA in Business Analytics. The first year builds analytical and mathematical skills and includes an eight-week summer internship. The second year is for electives and an optional exchange at partner schools.
2. IIM Ahmedabad: Blended PGP in Business Analytics and AI (BPGP: BA and AI)
This programme is for working professionals and entrepreneurs, not fresh graduates. It is a blended format, so it differs from a full-time residential MBA. A news report describes it as a two-year programme with a diploma exit option after year one.
3. IIM Calcutta, ISI Kolkata and IIT Kharagpur: PGDBA
PGDBA is a joint programme of three institutes. It has its own entrance test, which means a CAT score alone does not get you in. Quantitative Aptitude has the largest share of the test, according to a third-party exam guide.
4. MDI Gurgaon: PGDM (Business Analytics)
MDI offers Business Analytics as one of the programmes on its common PGDM application form. MDI Gurgaon is ranked 9 in NIRF 2025 management.
5. XLRI Jamshedpur: PGDM (BM) with Business Analytics track
XLRI does not run a separate analytics MBA in the sources we read. It has an international track in Business Analytics with George Washington Business School, USA, available to the 2026-28 PGDM (BM) cohort. This is an add-on to the general programme, not a standalone course.
6. IIFT Delhi: MBA (Business Analytics)
IIFT admits 60 students to this programme, and it is offered at the Delhi campus only. The college is best known for international business, but this is a separate analytics programme.
7. IIM Ranchi: MBA (Business Analytics)
IIM Ranchi lists MBA-BA next to its general MBA and HRM programmes. It is the most degree-restrictive programme on this list, so read the criteria first.
8. NMIMS Mumbai: MBA Business Analytics
NMIMS selects for this programme through NMAT, so it is the main option here for NMAT takers.
Entrance Exams and Selection
Almost all CAT-based programmes here use a shortlist, then a group discussion or written test, and an interview. The share given to CAT varies. IIM Bangalore uses 55 of 100 points before the interview and 25 after it. IIM Ranchi gives CAT 65%. MDI gives it 65% at the first stage.
Which Programme Should You Choose?
- Strong maths or engineering background, full-time student: IIM Bangalore, IIM Ranchi, IIFT and PGDBA all reward this profile. PGDBA also needs a separate test.
- Non-engineer with 50% in graduation: IIM Bangalore and MDI state no maths-degree rule. IIFT and IIM Ranchi do.
- Working professional: IIM Ahmedabad's BPGP is built for people with 2 to 3 years of experience.
- Want an international credential: XLRI's track with George Washington University.
- NMAT is your strongest score: NMIMS Mumbai.
- Cost matters: Compare total fees, not per-year fees. MDI lists Rs 26,55,310 for two years and IIFT lists Rs 17,87,506, but the batch years differ and NMIMS quotes a per-annum figure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need work experience for business analytics MBAs in India? Not for most full-time programmes here. IIM Bangalore, MDI, IIFT, IIM Ranchi and PGDBA score work experience but do not require it. IIM Ahmedabad's BPGP does require 2 to 3 years.
Do I need an engineering degree? It depends. IIM Ranchi limits eligibility to specific degree streams. IIFT asks for maths or statistics in some form. IIM Bangalore and MDI accept any discipline.
Is CAT enough for all of these? No. PGDBA has its own test, NMIMS needs NMAT, XLRI uses XAT, and IIM Ahmedabad's BPGP allows several exams.
Can I apply with a final-year degree? Several colleges allow it, with a deadline for proof of results. Check each notice. MDI's page, for example, sets 30 June 2027 for the 2027-29 batch.
Is there an official ranking of analytics programmes? No. The NIRF ranks here are overall management ranks for each college, not for analytics.
Are the details on this page final? No. Several documents are for the 2026-28 cycle and the rules can change for the next one.
Final Word
Pick the programme whose entry rules you meet and whose curriculum matches the job you want. Before you apply, open each college's official admission page and confirm the eligibility, exam, dates, fees and placement report for your intake year.
